KRL is proud to provide the scientists and engineers of the country a platform in the shapes of numerous international, regional and national workshops, conferences, symposia and seminars to interact with the top scientists and engineers of the world, exchanging views, knowledge and the most advanced scientific information.
ISAM (International Symposia On Advanced Materials)
Perhaps no other scientific forum has gained the respectability and maturity that has been acquired by this unique colloquium on the complex world of advanced materials. First held in 1989, the Symposium is now a biannual feature of KRL and so far there have been four such gatherings, while preparations for the fifth one, to be held in 1997, are under way. At every meeting it has attracted a record number of top scientists, metallurgists and engineers from all over the world and so far we have been proud to play hosts to delegates from Austria, Belgium, Bahrain, China, Finland, Germany, India Iran, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Uzbekistan and the West Indies, besides a large number of local engineers and scientists.

What the utility of this international event has been can easily be judged by the     proceedings of all these symposia, which are duly printed in a book form, and     are providing a useful data-base and referencefor the ongoing research in the     country. It has always been my endeavor to initiate debate on our technological problems and find their solutions by healthy discussions. To quote my keynote address at the ‘4th ISAM’: "The greatest event in the world today is the increased automation and sophistication in process technology which has brought about a global industrialization and has been elemental in uplifting the economic and social well-being of the masses. Materials science and engineering has played a key role in bringing about this transformation in our society." Materials science is the science of tomorrow and if we wish to excel in our future, we ought to be proficient in this extraordinary branch of science. This has been the motive of the Symposia and an effort on our part to encourage research in this field.

National Workshop On Management And Magnetic Materials

This Workshop, which was held in 1994, was an enormous success in enabling the country’s scientists to focus their attentions towards the vital area of magnets and magnetic materials --- those materials, though not major by volume, but of extreme importance for conventional as well as advanced engineering applications. A magnet, which is a permanent source of potential energy, is a very useful and indispensable material for the electro-industry. Owing to its wise range of applications in manufacturing motors, generators, lifters, levitaion trains, microwave tubes, loud speakers, transformers, magnetic sensors and relays etc., an urge has always been there to encourage the local scientific community to concentrate on this vital subject. This aim was duly fulfilled by the Workshop, which has gone a long way in providing the latest information regarding production and applications of rare-earth based magnets and Alnico Magnets.

All Pakistan Software Competitions And Exhibitions

In view of the ever-expanding role of professional computers in today’s scientific arena and hence the growing demand for a variety of software, the need was felt in the country to encourage the local software industry so as not only to save the precious foreign exchange, currently being spent on its import, but also to take a lead in the world software market by exploring the chances of exporting indigenously developed software.

Thus, with the objective of encouraging indigenous software development and to write software packages of high standard, KRL has been organizing this singular software gala for the last seven years. Not only have the number of entries, both in professional as well as student categories, increased over this period, but the standard of output has also tremendously improved during successive exhibitions.

National Seminar On Power Electronics & Opto-Electronics

Held for the first time on June 18, 1996, this highly productive and well-attended seminar turned out to be another milestone achieved by KRL and hence another feather in our cap. These two fields being specializations of electronics, their importance in today’s scientific arena can very well be imagined. Power Electronics has intense application in Power Supplies, Invertors, UPS, Electronic Controls, Welding, Rotary and Linear Motors, Lifts, Escalators, etc. and Opto Electronics is the basis for Lasers, Night Vision Devices, Image Intensifiers, Thermal imagers, Medical Equipment, Television etc. It is, therefore essential to gain proficiency in this intricate branch of electronics. With this objective in mind this seminar was organized. It not only enabled the scientific community of the country to concentrate on the subject, but also enabled them to have a clearer vision of the issue by free and frank discussions amongst themselves.

 International Conference On Phase Transformations

Keeping in view the importance of phase transformations in the development of advanced materials, KRL organized this three-day International Conference on Phase Transformations from September 1 to September 3, 1996, in Islamabad. Being the first international conference of its kind to be held in Pakistan, it was yet another grand gathering of the world’s renowned scientists, engineers and technologists, who arrived from every corner of the world to attend this international moot. In this way, the conference certainly enabled the participants to establish a dialogue among the scientists and engineers of the developed and developing countries. Apart from other relevant issues, the conference concentrated on vital topics such as Equilibrium and Non-equilibrium Phase Transformations, Solidification and solid State Transformations in Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Alloys and Ceramics, Analytical Techniques to study the Phase Transformations and Mathematical Modeling and Computer Simulation of Phase Transformations.

National Conference On Vibration In Rotating Machinery

The National Conference on Vibrations in Rotating Machinery, held from September 7 to September 9, 1996, was first of its kind and a major breakthrough in the intricate field of Vibrations. The conference provided a forum for engineers and scientists in vibration engineering all over the country and abroad to discuss new and advanced ideas in theory, computational or experimental approaches and applications of vibration engineering. Leading professional in this field delivered keynote address on some very interesting themes on the subject, such as Balancing Technology, Vibration Measurement Analysis and Diagnostics, Squeeze Film Dampers etc.
